This qualification is designed for an Environmental Technician working in the extractive industries. It comprises standards related to minimising environmental effects, consent requirements for use of water, settling ponds, and the geological nature of surface extraction sites.
This qualification can lead on to the National Certificates in Extractive Industries – Operations (
Levels 3 &
4)
Surface Extraction includes quarries, open cast coal and gold mines, lime mills, alluvial gold extraction, iron sands, and industrial minerals.
Underground Extraction includes metalliferous and coal underground mines and tunnels.
