National Certificate in Extractive Industries - Mining Administration with strands in B Grade Tunnel Manager and Coal Mine Deputy

This qualification is designed for B Grade Tunnel Managers or Coal Mine Deputies as part of the requirements for their statutory status.

Holders of this qualification are able to demonstrate knowledge and skills related to: application of regulatory requirements to manage an extractive site; inspecting and reporting on extractive site and operations; reviewing and implementing plans for extractives operations; planning storage of processed product; the Mines Rescue Service; conducting an incident investigation; conducting safety checks on equipment; basic knowledge and ability for working underground; developing, and maintaining basic ventilation systems for an underground mine or tunnels; installing, and reassessing support systems; supplying, maintaining, delivering, and storing services; shutting down and isolating machines and equipment; and interpreting and testing for gases in the context of an underground extractives site.

The optional standards have been included to provide the opportunity for candidates to complete the additional requirements for Certificates of Competence to be awarded in workplace situations where explosives are used.

This National Certificate leads to, and is a prerequisite for award of, the National Certificate in Extractive Industries – Mining Administration A Grade Tunnel Manager.

Special Notes: The content of this national qualification is based on the requirements of the gazette notice relating to the mining administration regulations and Certificates of Competence.

People who have completed the requirements of this qualification may be eligible to apply for a B Grade Tunnel Manager’s Certificate of Competence or a Coal Mine Deputy’s Certificate of Competence.
