Level 5 Credits 85
This National Certificate recognises the skills of an experienced professional driving instructor.
Holders of this qualification are able to conduct driver education programmes covering: the Graduated Driver Licensing System (GDLS) and road law; skills in on-job and individualised driver education and assessment. The compulsory section of this qualification specifies the core competencies required to be a driving educator. Candidates are then required to select standards that reflect their particular areas of career interest from the core elective. Candidates may then endorse their qualification by completing an optional strand specific to vehicle type.
An optional Adult Literacy Education standard has been included to provide an opportunity
for the professional development of driver trainers and assessors.
With careful planning this qualification can be undertaken while meeting the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) training requirement for the
‘I’ (Driving Instructor) endorsement to a driver licence. Candidates seeking this endorsement must be assessed for Driving Instructor standards by an NZTA approved provider. The current schedule of standards that meet the ‘I’ endorsement’s training requirement and the list of approved providers are available from
NZTA.
