Level 3 or 4 Credits 74
This qualification recognises the skills of an experienced professional abrasive blaster and protective coater. Holders of this qualification are able to apply quality concepts when mixing and thinning protective coatings, measuring film thickness, preparing surfaces by abrasive blasting, and applying protective coatings. They can demonstrate knowledge of abrasive blasting materials, protective coatings, thinners, and disposing of blaster coating waste.
The structure of the qualification provides choices of applying wet or metallic protective coatings and a choice of operation equipment or plant is provided in the elective sections.
The optional strands recognise the skills and knowledge required to work in the different environments of the abrasive blasting and protective coating industry; including supervision of safety, quality, and people (during blaster coating operations), work in a confined space, plan a confined space entry, control traffic temporarily, and work safely at heights and in traffic.
This qualification builds on the
National Certificate in Blaster Coating - Level 2.
Special Notes
It is recommended that people seeking award of this qualification have achieved prior award of the
National Certificate in Blaster Coating (Level 2) or have had at least two years experience in the blaster coating industry.
